As an internet alphabet, I mainly tell live stories about my life as a mountain farmer, mountaineer, museum designer and film maker. I have started my seventh life after having reinvented myself six times and I continue to tell my life story. After my time as a rock climber, high-altitude mountaineer, border crosser in polar regions and deserts, explorer, politician and museum designer, I remain a storyteller and guardian of the last non-urbanised spaces on this earth. 

I am interested in the relationship between human nature and wilderness, personal responsibility and experiences at the edge of our possibilities, a self-determined life in the end.

AGAINST THE WIND

One, if not the constant in Reinhold Messner's life is the headwind: whether as heavy storms on the way to the South Pole with Arved Fuchs or with his brother Hubert across the Greenland ice, whether alone when pitching a tent or on the steepest walls. Above all, back in civilisation, where his actions have always provoked opposition. Even as a young mountaineer he was discredited; time and again he experienced hostility - as an opinionated individualist, author and museum organiser. Drawing on eight decades of experience, Messner reflects on friendships and intrigues, mountaineering and private highlights and setbacks. He impressively conveys how headwinds can grow wings. And the ability to realise dreams even in old age.
